WORLD SOKARATE FEDERATION

WELCOME TO

WSF • World Sokarate Federation
全世界総空手道連盟

The World Sokarate Federation (WSF) was founded to preserve, develop, and transmit the authentic system and spirit of Full Contact Budo Karate.

Our mission goes far beyond physical training. We strive to build a better society — one grounded in respect, strength, discipline, and inner harmony. Through Sokarate, we cultivate the body, mind, and spirit as one, unlocking the full potential of every individual.

At WSF, we stand for unity without borders. We reject all forms of discrimination — ethnic, religious, political, gender-based, or social — and promote equality, international friendship, and mutual respect among all practitioners worldwide.

The Symbol of Our Path: The Kanji 総 (Sō)

• The Kanji 総 (Sō) is the heart of our organization, embodied in a visual form. It serves as the foundation of our name—Sōkarate (総空手)—which translates to “Comprehensive” or “Holistic” Karate. This symbol, worn on the gi of every member of our Federation, is more than just an emblem; it is a profound reminder of the path we have chosen.

• The Profound Meaning of the Kanji
Etymologically, the Kanji 総 consists of the “silk thread” radical (纟), symbolizing connection, and an element representing the gathering of scattered parts into a single, cohesive whole. It is a powerful image: thousands of individual movements, principles, and human journeys woven together into a single, unbreakable force, much like a powerful rope.

• The Three Pillars of Our Philosophy
For each of us, the Kanji 総 embodies three fundamental principles:
Holistic Development: True mastery is not limited to physical strength.
The Path of Sōkarate: This is the harmonious development of three foundations: Body (technical perfection), Spirit (unshakable will), and Mind (strategic thinking and wisdom).
We study Sōkarate as a system that strives to make an individual complete in all aspects of life.

• Unity and Community
We are not merely a collection of individuals; we are a unified structure. Just as the threads in the Kanji create a strong fabric, every member of the Federation contributes their unique effort to our common cause. Mutual support, respect for our seniors, and care for our juniors are what make us invincible. The success of one is the victory of the entire Federation.

• The Striving for Completion
The Kanji reminds us of the importance of discipline and of seeing things through to the end. Every movement must be meaningful, every strike must be complete, and every decision must be measured. We strive for the pinnacle of mastery, where every action is performed with total dedication.

• The Kanji on Your Gi: Symbolic Placement
Wearing the Kanji 総空手 is a sign of your commitment to this great path:
On the left chest (near the heart): This signifies that the ideals of integrity and unity live within you. Your heart beats in unison with the principles of the Federation.
On the left pant leg (the base): This represents the foundation of your stance. Your position in life and in the Dojo rests upon the accumulated wisdom of our ancestors and the strength of our brotherhood.

• A Message to New Federation Members
“Strength in Unity, Mastery in Wholeness.”
By accepting the Kanji 総 as your symbol, you take on the responsibility of developing not only your martial skills but also strengthening the bonds within our organization. Let this sign serve as your compass during moments of trial and as a source of inspiration in your daily work on yourself.
Welcome to the Sōkarate family!
